Cleaning the kitchen floor

I discovered my newest house project today on a whim. While I’ve used a sponge mop to clean the kitchen floor, I noticed that the linoleum has some fairly deep textured crevices.

So what did I do? Got down on my hands and knees with a scrub brush and some bleach and tested out my theory.

Lord, is that floor filthy. Take a gander:

What I thought was truly darker shading in the flooring is actually years of built-up dirt and grime caught in the pitted texture of the linoleum. Ew, ew, ew.

I’ve got maybe 1/8th of the floor done so far. I’ve been using a bleach and water mixture and the scrub brush. I follow that up by wiping with a paper towel to remove the loosened icky stuff and then do it again, finishing up by running a mop over the portion I’ve cleaned.

This will take a while. My arms can only take so much scrubbing, and the bleach smell isn’t ideal.
